120/240 Volt Appliance Circuits

An appliance circuit is a common feature in homes and is an outlet for your appliances to obtain power.

To ensure it is safe, an appliance circuit installation must be the correct voltage for your appliance and shouldn’t overload your system.

You can have sockets for your small appliances or dedicated circuits for larger appliances such as an electric range.

Many homes were built with a minimum number of circuits in some rooms, such as the kitchen, where they are most likely to be needed. However, with so many different appliances now found in homes, new dedicated appliance circuits are often needed. Particularly, when a new appliance is purchased or moved.

If you are remodeling your kitchen or laundry space you may need some rewiring work to ensure your appliance circuits are where you need them to be.

Appliances which may need a dedicated circuit include:

  • Kitchen appliances – refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers, electric ranges, etc.
  • Heating and air conditioning – electric water heaters, heat pumps, air conditioners, furnaces, etc.
  • Others – garage doors, garbage disposals

Any electrical equipment must be fitted safely. Failure to do so could be a fire hazard and could jeopardize your family and/or your property. Many tasks should be carried out by a qualified electrician as electrical fires can be caused by faulty wiring or overloading the system.

Whilst some small tasks can be safely carried out by a householder, such as changing a plug or simple replacement of socket covers, tasks which involve electrical wiring must be carried out by a qualified electrician.

If your appliances aren’t installed correctly it could shorten their lifespan, or you could find yourself with a repair bill due to damage caused. As many appliances are expensive to replace, it could save you money and give you peace of mind to have them correctly wired.

If you have concerns about the safety of your current set up, our appliance circuit electrician can visit your property to carry out an assessment and recommend and safety works if necessary.

We can also carry out an appliance circuit board repair to keep older appliances running, lengthening their lifespan.

If you have bought a new appliance and it requires a dedicated circuit, we can fit new ones.
